The Dive Bar

Despite the name on the window and on the flashing arrow sign in the parking lot this bar isn't as divey as it is rustic and honky tonk like.

Toward the back is the requisite wooden bar with a dusty, cloudy mirror on the wall behind it. Cushioned stools sit in front of it, a couple knocked over into the floor. There are numerous empty beer and whiskey bottles strewn about amoung tables and chairs as if someone decided to throw one last party and didn't clean up after themselves. Dust covers everything.

A stage sits to the side, a few dusty instruments on it as if waiting for someone to pick them up and begin to play. Near it an old Wurlitzer jukebox with an out-of-order sign hanging from it, but there are still old 45 records contained within, all country from the 50's and 60's.

With everything that has been going on lately it totally slipped Piper's mind that there was a small stash of booze hidden in the honky-tonk on the outskirts of town. This afternoon though it smacked her in the face that she hadn't told the one person it would matter to, Sophia. So after tracking the woman down they set off. "There's trap door." she says to the woman as she opens the door, lifting the mason jar lantern. She still fakes it with those that don't know her secret. A gesture is made toward the back to the bar as she holds back a sneeze at the dust in the air.

Sophia's eyes are wide as she tries to take everything in. A bar. A real bar. Oh…what she could do here! "Piper! This is perfect!" She's not even seen the booze yet. The older woman turns to look at the trap door and laughs loudly, "I had one of these!" Trap doors are apparently common in bars? "But mine was up in the ceiling." Not able to see down very far, Soph squints her dark eyes and then shrugs moving to start climbing down, "Anything I'm gonna trip on?"

As the pair wander through Piper eyes the instruments and jukebox, since she is staying she may just grab a guitar for herself on the way out. She needs her own to practice with. "I guess, down was better." she follows along, "No." she shakes her head, holding the light so it shines down an illuminates the steps going down. The fact that Sophia is pleased isn't surprising, but the woman can't help but give a smile at it. It's kind of infectious, and her brain is in a positive mood today.

Cellar <C>

Descending the step steps leads to a earthen cellar where the temperature seems to stay a pleasant 75 degrees no matter what it's like outdoors. It's pitch dark, so some kind of light source is required.

While the cellar looks old the beams that support the walls and ceiling look solid.

There isn't much to be found here, most of the booze has already been drunk during the Waves or was looted. Keyword most. There is a crate or two that hold random cheaper brands of spirits. Nothing topshelf here. Gin, vodka, whiskey or two. A variety of non-alcholic mixers as well.

Sophia hurries downward, eyes closed to hopefully help them adjust. "I can totally clean this place up." It's not within Bob's cleared zone, but whatever. "Start a still down here…" yeah, she's got plans. "Mayeb we can get a battery for the jute box even. Screw lights, they can use candles. Music. "Have everyone that can play came make music…this will be so good for everyone." And Soph, she'll admit. She was beginning too flounder. Almost on instinct she moves to start looking at what booze is here.

Piper listens to the beginning of plans that Sophia is making "Eva…new girl. Mechanic. She has power ideas." and maybe she will actually she them done. The thought of getting the jukebox going is enough to get the muscian on board "Can help." she offers "With music." especially music. As the booze is examined she gets a sheepish look "I took three. I can give them back." she certainly won't need them anymore.

Sophia nods, listening but more focused on what's in front of her. She picks up one bottle and then another, dusting them off. "That's mucho grande….the more music and live bodies the better." She'll look up, slightly surprised, "No…I don't have claim on any of them, you keep it. They're good for trade." She knows her profession is an expensive one. "I'm actually going to talk to the ten lady soon and see if they have the equipment for brewing…I can find some of it, but it's not going to be the best at first. Moon shine it is.

Well Piper isn't sure about live bodies, they only number a couple of dozen, and some of those are children, "Maybe it can attract more settlers?" she both wonders and asks before nodding her thanks at the offer to keep the booze. Giving a hand in sorting through what is there she can't help but look at some of the weirder mixers with curiosity…sour mix? She can only shrug her shoulders "Better than nothing."

Sophia nods, going back to digging around the crate, "Si….It's a sign of a strong community." Sorta. "that we are thriving." Yeah, that sounds good. Several bottles are pulled out and Soph seems pleased with them. She laughs tapping a finger on the sour mix, "We will need to check the expiration dates…" Some will be fine, other rancid if bad. "I hope to be abel to make some shine, and beer and possibly cider." They may need to make a trip back to the orchard….

Thriving? Maybe the are, in a manner of speaking. She's not going to debate it today. "Okay." Piper examines the bottle in her hand, finally flipping it over to see the good by date in the bottom "Still good." for a few more months at least. "What do.." she waves a hand at Sophia "need?" she hmms then at the list "Hard cider?" that's what she assumes but asks anyway. Regular cider is pretty easy.

Well, it's what they're shooting for, anyway, right? Soph's an optimist. Good good, she nods, happy they have a little time for some of the drinks, anyway. "Maybe we can grow a lemon and lime tree close by." She knows a few people have found limes. The tiny woman stops, sighing and glancing around the dark room, "Honestly? Power…and cleaning supplies." they have some, but they used a lot for the apartments and club house. A warm laugh, "I suppose not hard would be good too. Not like I'll be carding folks when they come in." She can get a menu going, a little bout for everyone.

"Avocado tree." Piper points unerringly west "Near stream. Found two." they aren't lemons or limes but who doesn't like guacamole. "Few other fruit trees, too. No fruit. Could be citrus." she is just learning the whole plant identification thing, a few of the things she found she had to look up "Plenty of vinegar and hot water." vinegar, one of the most useful things ever "kids like it. Better than water." though not as good for you. "Lost my id anyways."

Sophia's smile can be seen in the dark, "Hell yes. that would be great!" She's about as opposite of Bob as one could be. She stands up, not bothering to take any of the bottles just yet. Instead she moves to check out the space. 'The space is good for brewing…" She could definitely make this work. "Is there a back room upstairs?" Bob won't like it, but if she's going to clean this up, she'll be staying here. Hands on her hips she chuckles, "I think everyone did, Piper. Maybe we can make up our own." Or the kids can.

Well of course Piper can see it, even if she pretends not to and takes anything she wants to examine closer to it. She gives a bit of a laugh at the bartenders enthusiasm "Just need chips." maybe one of the people that can cook can work on that one. Maybe mention it to Terry or someone. "Cool enough?" she doesn't know the first thing about brewing, but assumes a steady temperature helps "Yes. Office, between bath-rooms." she chuckles again "Stick figures." because that is the limit of her drawing abilities.

Sophia makes a hungry, agreeing noise. "Wonder if we could figure out how to make some…" Although she's already been thinking about it, Soph holds a hand out and feels the temp of the room, "I think it is steady enough, Si." Her lower lip is chewed on, she'll need to check out the office, it might not work.

Piper is pretty sure someone can, the bug just needs to be put in the right ear. She continues to sort the mixers into a still good area and a not good area. Most are thankfully in the former category. "Gren-a-dine?" she asks as she holds out the unopened bottle of red liquid "No date." at least not one that she could find "Good in summer." she comments about the room. She wouldn't be surprised to find Sophia sleeping down here in the heat of July.

Sophia turns grinning, "Oh? Yum! Good…that's a good one to have. It'll be good." She's happy with any, but the building blocks are important too. She then grins, "Si…it will be nice down here then."

The bottle is tipped upside down and then back as Piper watches the thick syrupy liquid flow before depositing it with the rest of the things that are still useable "We taking.." she gestures at the stuff that has been sorted out. She may have been told, but she doesn't remember off the top of her head if they stuff is being taken back to camp or left here for safekeeping.

Sophia's face twists as she thinks, "No….I think we should leave it. I'll start cleaning the upstairs…. maybe in a few days I can open." Well, that will be a lot of candles, but hey, she could really use this place. Most of them could. "Thank you Piper." Soph knows there was some drama with the younger woman, and that there was rumour of her leaving. It would ahem been easy for her to take things and just leave.

Piper blinks in surprise at the time line "That soon?" even is her expression can't be seen the surprise is clear in her voice, "Enough?" she looks at what there is here and tries to think of what there is in storage at the complex. "Sure." her tone is rather non-chalant, as if she only did what was right and it isn't that big of a deal. Bob is going to kill her..or at least frown at her and maybe have a few words, but it was worth it.

Sophia laughs, "I've found if you give yourself a deadline, it's more likely to happen." And she shrugs, "If I open, it's more incentive for falls to bring me bottles they find, right?" And if they run out, well…that's just what happens. "If we can make our own candles soon…We can be opened in the evening."

There is a nod at the logic in that, but then Piper realizes that Sophia probably can't see the movement easily so gives verbal acknowledgement "Makes sense." brushing her hands off on her pants she then gives a shrug "Maybe." that one she isn't so sure of, not everyone is up for sharing, but if enough do, it will work. "Candles. Cait trying to bring some-one." she hasn't seen the woman for days though, she comes and goes doing the whole trading thing.

"Good. Candles will be good…" Soph's voice trails off as she thinks. There's much to do. And if she wants to really get anything done, she needs to start it without Bob. He'll argue, but if it's already set up….he'll be less likely to argue long.

"Very." Piper can only agree with that one. Picking up the jar with the candle she looks from Sophia and then towards the stairs "Look up-stairs?" she didn't look around the first time she was here, just checked out the juke box and the cellar "Figure stuff out?

Sophia dusts her hands off on the seat of her pants and nods, "Si…lets go up where there's more light." She can make a better assessment of the place.

Having come prepared, Piper offers another of the jar lanterns to Sophia so they can look around independently. Her nose wrinkles at all the dust in the air, and she rubs it to keep from sneezing. "Kitchen…" she's a bit surprised at the small cooking area accessed through a door behind the bar and she wanders in there to poke around a bit. They can always use canned food. It's obvious by it's state and size that it wasn't used all that much. Probably just for staff breaks or something.

Sophia pokes around the office, and seems fairly happy with what she's finding. Until she can get an honest lock and key, she'll be crashing here. "perfecto." After searching around more, anything of value, no matter how small, is set on the counter. She's got work to do. A mental list of cleaning supplies is already starting to form.
